Consistently Showing Up for Your Child - even when change is slow...

Sometimes I find it hard to keep writing week after week

without knowing if it’s landing or not landing,

or if it’s helpful.

Sometimes it’s lonely and I struggle to keep at it...

And then, there are times when I feel so much joy in writing to you,

in putting words together that I know are helpful, that I hear are helpful.

It fills my heart.

And I realize that Parenting is a bit like like writing in the way you need to just keep showing up. It often feels hard and lonely and you don't always know what is "landing."

And then…

there is a smile or a hug

or a child who talks to you about something hard

and your heart soars.

Consistency…

That’s the essential parenting skill I’m talking about here.

Consistency of stance with your child.

Stance as solid ground.

Consistency of kindness.

towards yourself

towards your child.

Consistently being there and showing up

even when you don’t feel like it…

even when there isn't a “thank you”…

even when change is slow

and results are hard to see…

Consistency

and courage.

Keep going. You are doing a good job!
